Naibu has a product research and development (R&D) team comprising around 92 employees,vital to the success of the brand. The R&D department consists of three teams working, respectively, on design, product development and technology development.
The overall design of all shoes and clothing is overseen by the Executive Chairman, Huoyan Lin.
The design team produces annual “Spring and Summer” and “Autumn and Winter” collections which are launched nationwide at seasonal sales fairs six months ahead of the two seasonal periods.
Up to eight months’ work goes into the design of every new product, based on the outcome of market research. In the three years to 2011, the R&D department developed an annual average of approximately 350 new product designs.
A critical part of the R&D process is the design assessment meetings held between management and key customers to discuss market feedback on each new product design. Prototype samples of  new designs, and improved existing products are presented to the key customers, who provide feedback on the designs and their sales potential.
